SHOWMANSHIP

The ARBA recently released a showmanship format and score sheet to be used at the ARBA National Convention.  PASRBA has adopted this format and will be using it at all events run by PASRBA.  We would encourage all clubs and counties to follow suit.

Attention King & Queen Contestants

King and Queen contestants: You have to give a three to five minute promotional talk including visual aids. Talks are to be performed by the contestant without help except for special circumstances with prior approval. We have had everything from cavy history humor to necropsy discussions to photography to diseases. The topic, presentation style, visual aids, costumes, etc are entirely open. The presentation is supposed to be for the general public to promote rabbits and/or cavies. The best way to think of how they will be judged is: If you were on the stage at the PA Farm Show would 1) the general public be interested and stay to watch 2) Will it teach them anything? 3) Will it change their view of rabbits and cavies in some positive way? If you win, you will give the talk at the PaSRBA banquet so make sure your visual, audio or anything else can be seen from 50' away. A powerpoint projector and audio system will be available.

Interested in learning more about rabbits and cavies?  Join the new Youth Rabbit Group on Facebook!  This is a group of royalty kids, helpers, and coaches who will post questions and answers to help you study for royalty and have fun doing it!  Questions are posted by judges, ACBA and ARBA royalty and anyone else who is a member of the group.   This is a good resource for any youth competing in any rabbit or cavy contests.  To join the facebook group go to "Rabbit Questions Galore" and click to join.

2009 Youth Contests & Results

The Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Association would like to encourage all youth in Pennsylvania to participate in the wide range of activities and contests we offer.   At the PA State Convention, youth may enter the Educational Contest which includes rabbit and cavy record books, informational posters, informational displays, rabbit/cavy artwork, rabbit/cavy short story, and rabbit/cavy photograph or photograph series.

The Royalty Contest looks for youth to advertise our fancy.  The Lord, Lady, Prince, and Princess must complete an application, take a written test, identify breeds and/or varieties of rabbits/cavies, participate in an interview and do showmanship on their own animal.  The Duke and Duchess must complete an application, take a written test, identify breeds and/or varieties of rabbits/cavies, participate in an interview, judge one class of four rabbits/cavies, and do showmanship on their own animal.  The King and Queen must complete an application, take a written test, identify breeds and/or varieties of rabbits/cavies, participate in an interview, judge one class of four rabbits/cavies, and give a promotional talk.

Two other contests offered at the convention are the Breed and Identification Contest and the Rabbit/Cavy Judging Contest.  By these contests we hope to educate our youth and prepare them for the national competition.

In an effort to offer more to our youth and an example set by ARBA, we are now offering an Achievement Contest as well as a Management Contest.  Both contests may be entered by youth even if they are unable to attend the convention.  The Management Contest also holds a special place in our hearts as a memorial to a Pennsylvania rabbit breeder, Carol Prosseda, who passed away in a automobile accident.  She showed many breeds.  She won some and lost some.  However, she loved helping youth with their rabbits and promoting the breeds she loved.  Carol cared about the fellowship and fun, not about winning.  She is missed by many.

To access applications for these contests and the PaSRBA Scholarship please see the Forms page.

2008 ARBA National Convention

Pennsylvania was well represented at this year's 2008 ARBA Convention in Louisville, KY.  Our state had 40 PaSRBA youth competing on 11 PA teams, 2 district teams and 6 NY, NC and MD teams.

The Royalty competition had the largest participation in the country with 29 PaSRBA youth!

Saturday's practice and pizza party, led by 9 judges and registrars, was well attended by 75 youth from PA, NC, MD, CT and WA.

A very special thank you goes out to Gerry Vaerewyck for devoting so much of his time and effort to ensure all participants were prepared for the competitions.

Congratulations to all the winners

Take a moment to view pictures of the ARBA Convention.
